August 4: Coast Guard Day

Coast Guard Day is celebrated every August 4, especially in Grand Haven, Michigan, a.k.a. Coast Guard City, USA.

On August 4, 1790, Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton created the Revenue Marine to enforce maritime laws. Soon after, it became known as the Revenue Cutter Service. In 1915, it merged with the U.S. Life-Saving Service and became known as the Coast Guard. Ever since, the Coast Guard has been busy with both jobs, rescuing people and policing the waters.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Matthew 14: 29-31
