There’s no doubt in my mind that we all need Forgiveness Day, both to be forgiven and to forgive. Maybe that’s why there’s Forgiveness Day on June 26, Global Forgiveness Day on August 27, and International Forgiveness Day on the first Sunday in August.
Forgiveness is outrageously important, yet I think there’s very little to say. The problem is not that we don’t know how or that we don’t think it’s worthwhile. The problem is that it’s difficult. (If you disagree, there’s a wikihow article, a Mayo Clinic article, and many more full of instructions, advice, and reasons why! Seriously! It’s kind of ridiculous!)
So, take a moment today and think through your life. First, consider who you might have wronged, and ask for forgiveness. Second, check yourself for any grudges, forgive, and move on. Now that’s something worth celebrating!
“Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Colossians 3:13
