August 12: Middle Child’s Day

Technically, I don’t think  I’m quite a middle child, but I’m definitely sympathetic. My siblings are quite spread out, and I was the second of three until I was 13, and a beautiful fourth came along.

Although many psychologists disagree about this, popular consensus is that middle children tend to feel they have the duties of an older child, but the privileges of the younger. Whether or not this is true will certainly vary from family to family, but the perception is often there.

If you know or have a middle child or are a sibling of one, try to do something a little special for that person, no matter their age. Of course, if you are a  middle child, today is the day to use all your privileges – to annoy or embarrass your big brother or sister as much as possible, and boss the life out of the baby of the family!

On the other hand, you’ll probably pay for it tomorrow, so maybe you should settle for something a little less problematic. 🙂

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! ”

1 John 3:1a
