October 2: Name Your Car Day

Does your car have a name? If it doesn’t, October 2 is the day to fix that.

My family has always named their cars. For years my parents had a minivan which they instructed “home, James!” I had what can only be described as an old lady car, named Alfred since he was such a good and proper chauffeur. Sadly, Alfred died a slow and painful death, so he went on to the happy hunting ground a few years ago (a.k.a. a Memphis junkyard).

Confession time: I am responsible for the name of our current car. I named him Nate, so that whenever we go some place we can go in car Nate. And periodically, we see a look alike car, an imperson-Nate. Don’t worry. I’ll stop now, but I’m afraid we definitely created a lot more horrible puns over the last few years.

“Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.”

Genesis 2:19
