November 22*: Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has a long, varied, and rather romanticized history, beginning with the Pilgrim feast in 1621. One of my favorite is the Thanksgiving Day declared by Abraham Lincoln right in the middle of the Civil War (November 1863). For centuries, people have gathered together to thank God and enjoy his blessings of family, friends, and food (and, for the past several decades, football!).

Now, only one thing remains: What are you thankful for?

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.”

Psalm 136:1

*In the U.S., Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, at what is generally considered to be the end of the harvest. If you happen to be farther north (where harvest comes earlier), Canada celebrates Thanksgiving on the second Monday in October. Other countries celebrate Thanksgiving on different dates as well, but in the U.S., it’s generally considered one of the most important holidays of the year.
