January 4: National Spaghetti Day

spaghetti [image credit Nnaluci at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Spaghettoni.jpg]On January 4, I’ve got your dinner plans all set. It’s National Spaghetti Day! Some of you fancy people will take this time to slowly simmer your perfect secret spaghetti sauce or even (if you started early enough) cook delicious homemade spaghetti noodles. If that’s you, you are awesome. I, on the other hand, am far too impatient. Here’s how spaghetti works at my house:

  • boil a package of spaghetti noodles
  • simmer a jar or two of spaghetti sauce (the “chunky” version) along with some plain ground beef or frozen meatballs
  • butter some bread, sprinkle garlic salt, Parmesan, and/or Italian seasonings and toast
  • throw together a simple salad
  • mix the sauce and noodles together so the flavors start mixing (I swear it’s better this way!)

Spaghetti al pomodoro e basilicoSpaghetti night is definitely one of my favorite meals because I love the taste, it’s really easy, and, if you do it right, it still feels like you’re having a nice, fancy dinner. Perfect!

While you’re eating, you can impress everyone with your knowledge of strange and random trivia, such as the fact that January 4 is Trivia Day. Maybe you can break out the board games afterwards!

“Wise men store up knowledge,
but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.”

Proverbs 10:14
