January 18: Thesaurus Day

Peter Mark Roget (1834)Happy Thesaurus Day! On January 18, 1779, Peter Mark Roget was born, delivered, and begat all at once! Years later, he started compiling lists of synonyms and near synonyms, adding variety to his writing. These lists were eventually published as Roget’s Thesaurus in 1852.

If you haven’t looked at a thesaurus in a while (years? decades?), take a moment today to look up a few words. It’s well worth it!

“A man finds joy in giving an apt reply—
and how good is a timely word!”

Proverbs 15:23

P.S. Don’t forget about Winnie-the-Pooh Day either! A. A. Milne was born on this day in 1882.
