February 3: The Day the Music Died

Buddy HollyOn February 3, 1959 three rock in roll musicians – Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson – and their pilot passed away in a plane crash. Eleven years later, Don McLean immortalized the event in the song “American Pie.”

I know it’s Super Sunday, but perhaps before it starts we could celebrate The Day The Music Died by singing along with “American Pie,” reading up about it, and listening to some old rock and roll songs.

“Shout for joy, O heavens;
rejoice, O earth;
burst into song, O mountains!
For the Lord comforts his people
and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.”

Isaiah 49:13
