On March 9, 1959, the first Barbie ever went on display in the American Toy Fair in New York City (see This Day in History). Thus, March 9 is Barbie Day!
The dolls were created by a woman who noticed that her daughter was ignoring her baby dolls in order to play with the grownup paper dolls. I know Barbies are rather controversial, and some of it’s quite deserved, but I still think they’re fun.
On the other hand, my husband (not a big Barbie fan) suggests we just fire up the barbecue and celebrate that way. 🙂

but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
