If you’re a lawyer, today’s your day! April 9 is International Be Kind to Lawyers Day. In other words, it’s the one day of the year people everywhere have to hold back their lawyer jokes. Of course, that probably just means they’re doubled the next day.

According to the International Be Kind to Lawyers Day website, the day was started by Steve Hughes, a man who often worked with lawyers, even though he wasn’t one. Although he enjoyed his job and considered his coworkers to be friends, he found himself constantly defending the profession to everyone.

Eventually, he got fed up and decided to create this holiday to convince everyone to treat lawyers nicely, at least for a day.

The question is, will it work?

“The wise in heart are called discerning,
and gracious words promote instruction.”

Proverbs 16:21
