July 15*: Global Hug Your Kids Day

mother and daughter by Louise Elisabeth Vigee Le BrunIn 2008, eight year old Mark Nichols died suddenly from brain cancer. As a result, his mother, Michelle Nichols, created a holiday to encourage parents everywhere to enjoy the time they’ve got.

Every year the 3rd Monday in July is celebrated as Global Hug Your Kids Day. Hugs are actually quite good for your health, lowering stress levels, heart rate and blood pressure, and hugging your kids is a great way to let them know you care.

“I led them with cords of human kindness,
with ties of love.
To them I was like one who lifts
a little child to the cheek,
and I bent down to feed them.”

Hosea 11:4

P.S. If you’ve gotten in any trouble lately, you should know that the third Monday in July is also Get Out of the Doghouse Day. Good luck!
