Happiness happens, guys, and, if you’re not careful, it all happens when you don’t notice it. Then, when you think back through your life, all you can remember are the bad things. Psychologists call this the “negativity bias” (short video explaining it here). That’s one reason we remember the traffic jams in a trip, not the normal, jam free driving.
That’s why the folks at the Secret Society of Happy People have established August 8th as Happiness Happens Day: to encourage people everywhere to notice the good things that happen every day and to be happy about them. Easier said than done, I know, but it’s habit you’ll be glad to have.
“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”
