August 9*: Art Day

Oil_painting_paletteEvery year on the 2nd Friday in August, Artists for a Better World organize a “holiday for the arts;” it’s Art Day! While this holiday does celebrate paintings, drawings, and other visual arts, it also celebrates the other arts as well: music, dance, drama, even poetry.

While artists and art lovers across the world are encouraged to hold their own parties, there are several celebrations – and art contests – in the founder’s hometown of Sunland, California (see here for more info about the Sunland celebrations). For those of us who can’t quite swing a trip to California in time, it’s a day for enjoying artwork of all kinds, showing appreciation for artists, and, hopefully, creating some artwork of your own. Then, share it with a friend!

“Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.”

Isaiah 64:8

P.S. August 9 is also Book Lover’s Day!
