In 1953, Swanson produced the first “TV Brand Frozen Dinners” which sold like hotcakes. These first frozen dinners came with a main dish and a vegetable in an aluminum tray, ready to be heated for 25 minutes in the oven. When ready, the dinners fit perfectly on a tv tray.
Today’s TV dinners often have a few different side dishes and a dessert along with the entree, and take only a few minutes in the microwave. Personally, I don’t typically do tv dinners, but I have enjoyed those “steamer” microwave dinners when I’ve taken my lunch to work.
