September 10: National TV Dinner Day

I’ve got your dinner planned today, and, unlike some of our food holidays (National Crab-Stuffed Flounder Day? National Baked Alaska Day?), it’s nice and easy. September 10 is National TV Dinner Day!

image credit Smile Lee at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tvdinner.jpgIn 1953, Swanson produced the first “TV Brand Frozen Dinners” which sold like hotcakes.  These first frozen  dinners came with a main dish and a vegetable in an aluminum tray, ready to be heated for 25 minutes in the oven. When ready, the dinners fit perfectly on a tv tray.

Today’s TV dinners often have a few different side dishes and a dessert along with the entree, and take only a few minutes in the microwave. Personally, I don’t typically do tv dinners, but I have enjoyed  those “steamer” microwave dinners when I’ve taken my lunch to work.

Bon appetit!

“Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”

Psalm 34:8
