International Day of Older Persons is a United Nations observance intended to raise awareness of issues that effect the elderly and to encourage viewing senior citizens as people, helpful resources, and an important part of society, rather than as burdens.
If you ever stop and listen to an “older person,” you’ll find that they do have so much to offer. The experiences and wisdom they share can be amazing, so sit a while, or walk a ways with them, even if their wheelchairs appear to roll along at 0.01 mph. I assure you, you can spare the time.
And to all the sweet, but hurting, senior citizens who have given me this advice – “Never grow old.” – well, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: it sure beats the alternative!
“Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord.”
