October 26: National Mincemeat Day

mince piesHi, guys! Sorry for the lateness. I know the day’s almost over, but here’s what’s happening October 26, 2013:

  • Make a Difference Day, on the last Saturday in October (which I blogged about last year here)
  • Worldwide Howl at the Moon Night, every October 26 (which I also blogged about last year here)
  • National Mincemeat Day
Keep away from my mincemeat!

Keep away from my mincemeat!

Strangely enough, mincemeat typically has no meat in it any more, although you can find mincemeat with actual meat if you look hard enough. Instead mincemeat typically consists of several types of fruit, minced, and combined with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and other spices. Wrap it all up in a pastry and you’ve got yourself a Christmas pie! Of course, October 26 is a bit early to start the Christmas celebrations (even for stores!), but I see no reason we can’t eat mincemeat in October as well.

“The one who guards a fig tree will eat its fruit,
and whoever protects their master will be honored.”
Proverbs 27:18
