Thanksgiving

Psalm 136

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

to him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.
who by his understanding made the heavens,
His love endures forever.
who spread out the earth upon the waters,
His love endures forever.
who made the great lights—
His love endures forever.
the sun to govern the day,
His love endures forever.
the moon and stars to govern the night;
His love endures forever.

to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt
His love endures forever.
and brought Israel out from among them
His love endures forever.
with a mighty hand and outstretched arm;
His love endures forever.

to him who divided the Red Sea[a] asunder
His love endures forever.
and brought Israel through the midst of it,
His love endures forever.
but swept Pharaoh and his army into the Red Sea;
His love endures forever.

to him who led his people through the wilderness;
His love endures forever.

to him who struck down great kings,
His love endures forever.
and killed mighty kings—
His love endures forever.
Sihon king of the Amorites
His love endures forever.
and Og king of Bashan—
His love endures forever.
and gave their land as an inheritance,
His love endures forever.
an inheritance to his servant Israel.
His love endures forever.

He remembered us in our low estate
His love endures forever.
and freed us from our enemies.
His love endures forever.
He gives food to every creature.
His love endures forever.

Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His love endures forever.

Happy Thanksgiving! I know it’s not Thanksgiving yet, but I probably won’t be back on until next week, so . . . Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are surrounded by friends and family.

November 23: Eat a Cranberry Day

cranberriesNovember 23 is Eat a Cranberry Day! Ever since I saw this, I’ve been racking my brain to remember if I’ve ever eaten a fresh cranberry, and I don’t think I have. It’s rather ridiculous, because I really enjoy a little cup of cranberry juice (especially if it’s cranberry grape), and I’m super excited for the cranberry sauce and cranberry jello that I know is coming next week. 🙂 I even like snacking on “Craisins” (Technically, I suppose they are dried cranberries, but I’ve always thought of them as craisins.) Maybe it’s time for me to try out some fresh cranberries.

If straight cranberries aren’t your cup of tea, check out this page for some fun looking recipes, all featuring the cranberry.

“In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.”

Colossians 1:6b

I know it's still November (and I really do love Thanksgiving!), but I can't wait for Christmas!

November 22: Go For A Ride Day

Go For a Ride?Winter’s coming, folks. Well, to be honest, it’s just about here. I’m watching  a little snow flurry outside my window right now. However, the roads are still good, which makes this the perfect time to celebrate Go For a Ride Day.

The goal of today’s holiday is simple: go for a ride. Mode of transportation is your choice – car, bus, motorcycle, bicycle . . . if you’re really lucky, you could take a horse ride. If you have to have a destination, that’s fine, but I’m pretty sure you get bonus points if you just go exploring.

“Praise be to his glorious name forever;
may the whole earth be filled with his glory.
Amen and Amen.”

Psalm 72:19

November 20: Absurdity Day

Cheshire CatHappy Absurdity Day! I really couldn’t find much information about that day (other than this Facebook page showing panda bears photoshopped like the band Kiss), but I think there are plenty of fun absurdities to celebrate:

  • books and movies like Alice in Wonderland, The Phantom Tolbooth, The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, or “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show”
  • poorly made signs, advertisements, and headlines
  • life 🙂

“A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?”

Ecclesiastes 2:24-25

November 19: Rocky and Bullwinkle Day

rocky and bullwinkleOn November 19, 1959, Rocky and Bullwinkle saved the world for the first time. The show was witty, but outrageously poorly animated, yet it ran for six years and eventually became a cult classic, inspiring all sorts of spin-offs. Between Rocky and Bullwinkle, Boris and Natasha, Dudley Do-Right, and Snively Whiplash, right always wins, until next week’s cliffhanger is set up. Personally, my favorite is always the Fractured Fairy Tales, but the puns are just great everywhere. I think we’ve all attended Bullwinkle’s alma mater, Wossamatta U.

If you get started early enough, you can also celebrate Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine Day while you watch (yes, that is a thing). Just don’t come crying to me if you can’t sleep tonight!

In honor of Dudley Do-Right:

Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.

Psalm 34:14

P. S. November 19 is also National Blow Bagpipes Day, so, get started! I want to hear some bagpipes. 🙂

Howdy!

Regular readers, this one’s for you:

I’m sorry for those of you I’ve worried this last week! Things have been a bit crazy around here, and we were even without internet for a little while. Does anyone else find it funny that I disappeared after Forget-Me-Not Day? It was totally unplanned, but it’s so good I almost wish I’d intended it. I actually don’t even know what holidays we missed! Anyway, thanks for the concern. We are well, except for a nasty cold that won’t let go. Maybe it’s time for a nice cup of tea! 🙂

Thanks for reading!
